Just bought a Kelly Kettle, I haven’t tried it out yet but it looks like a ‘Keep’ah’.

This site has a less expensive price then KK http://www.allsunsolarproducts.com/kellykettle.html

I found these great pieces of square packing foam with tall corners that molded great to the kayaks above and canoes below.

I like rope. I use a Cove Hitch around the boat and tie it off to the rack with a Travelers Hitch.

I found this boat in the dump a year ago. It had been poorly patched. Here it is with the old patches cut off, and starting to sand the bad paint job off.

I needed a large solo canoe for this year Allagash trip, so I patched it inside and out, added inserts for painter lines, removed the front seat and added a thwart there, removed the rear seat, made a new one from ash and installed it a bit more towards the center.

Here’s a pic of the finished canoe loaded with the spray cover.

Found a Aussie Army Hat that I stripped down, and added a spiffie band to it. It’s a light weight felt and was comfortable even in the heat.
I like the wide brim for the sun protection

Also brought the Boonie that my cousin is wearing after the top of her ears fried.

Nice video looks like a right nice river.

The boys in the white canoe were loaded to the limit in the beginning, but I noticed at around 4:30 they had a bit more free board.

I know this part should go in the equip. forum but,

Anyone like those ridged sits the bowman was using? I bought my sone a pair for Xmas last year. I tried it on the Allagash trip this year and found it dug into my sideas I paddled. I have a soft sided one from Crazy Creek Canoe with an interial frame that’s a bit shorter that I like a lot better.

Cliff’s plans didn’t have collapsable legs but talked about adding a cover. I had already cut and bent the legs. My piece of metal for the cover was a bit long, I really didn’t want to make another cut, and thinking that by bending the piece not only gave me the legs I needed but also I won’t need a latch to keep it closed.

After submitting my log of the Allagash I sent a list links to go with the log. they didn’t get added so I’ll out themout here.

For maps we used Maps #12 and 13 from the Northern Forest Canoe Trail

    northern forest canoe trail

For river discriptions we use Gil Gilpatrick’s ‘The Allagash Guide’ and the expanded book ‘Allagash’ that also include the logg’n history of the area.

I did not bait houlibar into posting this thread But… Let me tell you about my dump.

So FAR (for boats) I’ve pulled two canoes and 2 John Boats out. The canoes are both 16’ers. One has a fiberglass patch job that looks like SWMBO might have put on. The other one just needs new thwarts and seats.
The 9′ John was missing a rib. I just fill the holes. The 12’er was hit by a snow plow and has a couple of dents in it and the stern Plywood needs to be replaced.

I know 4 boats that pretty good but not Great.

How about the old 3hp Sears Motor the small(?)hp electric trolling motor and a 1/2 paddles.

50 plus fishing poles (most given away) Fly to Saltwater.

5 full Tackle boxes, 1 filled with old Bass Plugs.

2-300 Back Pack, Most given to the Boy Scout and Church Groups.

Paddles, Camping gear: Sleeping Bags, Tents, Stoves…

I ‘ALMOST’ had an ‘OLD’ Old Town. It was a Closed Gunwales type the thing is most likely 100+ yrs old. I bearly knew the woman, I had made a canoe pole for her and I was supposed to hang on to it while this she moved from NH to ARK w/an option to buy for $750. When I went to pick it up the women had some room in her truck, and being the nice guy I am, showed how to load it and told her if she ran out of room leave one of the damn Kayaks. You don’t leave a canoe like this and move a 1000 miles away and hope to see it again.
