I too was fortunate in being introduced to Bob and invited him on our Seal River trip which remains on his bucket list as of 2009. He first signed up but other commitments would not allow his partnering with us. He did let us use his red “Tuktu” and spray deck which allowed us to descend the Seal River safely this year!
Bob’s a great guy and very generous in his knowledge.

Sorry.
Please contact me if you have any questions about Sylvania and I’ll see if I can help you.

Good one Rick
September 12, 2007 at 1:56 pm #4941BoneliParticipantI agree with Chuck on the breeze. Just make sure that when executing the liquids not to face into the wind. And if your taking care of the limburger then face appropieately at Jerry:eek:
Just remember the topic title here is about packs so any worth while discussions about the packers is approprieate:p

If experienced enough, the bow person drawing should be complimented immediately by the stern. The Stern man should be looking ahead and planning the line through the river while the bow person handles the immediate reactions. It can be confusing though to figure out the line the stern man has in mind but open communication is key. Get the right hand and left hand talking.

And I am just seeing this for the first time! 😮 And look who squeaked by with a win? Rick, need to barrow my Frost River Pack?

September 4, 2007 at 9:13 pm #4939BoneliParticipantThanks Chuck,
Welcome back by the way!
I keep forgetting about this site to check for responses so my apologies too Rick and PK for the Packer bashing! let the fun begin is what I got to say!:p 😀
I have been playing with the pack and I think I pretty much have it under control. Can’t pack it like the fat bastard that Uncle Phil has. It holds a lot but got rid of the beach ball affect  Mine has padded leather straps to help with the cushioning. Going have it on our fall trip this October to finally test her out. Ricks axe can go on the outside pocket with the bungee cord straps.
How was the water levels on any of the rivers or creeks you might have been on. We’ll be doing the Wawiag River and Mack Creek so I want to gauge it. I called Susan up in Atakokin (sp?) but she must have been out paddling out with you guys 😉

Interesting to have a knowledge base on the upper Midwest in addition to our paddling colleagues knowledge base across the border.
August 28, 2007 at 1:30 pm #4896BoneliParticipantRick, I have a new reel in replacement for the one which the handle broke trying to bring in that lake trout last year on Lac La Croix. We’ll make sure we have fish this year. Going though the Falls Chain should provide plenty of fish and with the fresh lemons on the side, we’ll be eating like kings. As for the 750mm gear, I think Jerry is short changing himself again. To bad! I found the Irish mini’s on sale and picked up a four pack for the fall. Someone mentioned Jack, “Yukon Jack is a taste born of hoary nights, when lonely men struggled to keep their fires lit and cabins warm.” This will be true this coming fall. As for gear I like to bring, an insulated stainless mug is pretty high on the list along with my SS French press constructed the same. A reflector oven is fun too especially for baking.

August 22, 2007 at 1:15 pm #4983BoneliParticipantActually, if you can get pictures of the pictos with their respective lakes I would appreciate that. I am working on a special project for Quetico history.
Thanks and have a great trip.
Remember the fall trip! Part of this will collect some more pictures.

August 22, 2007 at 1:12 pm #4938BoneliParticipantI am looking for collecive opinions to aid in how the best packing methods can take shape. Your suggestion is good but others might improve what you have already mentioned.

August 22, 2007 at 10:58 am #4974BoneliParticipantThanks. I already have the adventure map from Chrismar. I would like more detail that the TOPO’s show and just looking for a source thats not out there to gouge my pocket book. I am use to traveling with the TOPO’s especially through Wabakimi and Woodland Caribou PP’s. It’s more traditional then the colored maps by Fisher or McKenzie etc.
