I had purchased a Pelican SOT tandem kayak at a local flee market for $150. After trying it out and deciding it just wasn’t comfortable and hard to maneuver with only me paddling (my girl friend has a bad neck)
I listed it on craigslist for $350 or trade for a canoe. At the same time I called about a few canoes listed as well to no avail. There was a red Old town guide 147, but was listed way higher than my asking price, but the owner contacted me and we traded!
My brother, who despises canoes and has 3-4 kayaks gave me another green OT sport, pretty beat and scratched and really faded dull. I replaced/added stickers to both and tried several things to shine up the green one; while spreading some Thompson’s water seal to my gear box I rolled some on the very bottom, just to clean the excess out of my roller, I figured it couldn’t hurt anything. To my surprise it dried nice and shiny and looked good enough that I rolled a heavy coat on the whole thing. It beaded up in large beads and had runs and drips, by the time I finished (30 min) I started to roll out the runs (but not add any more product) it was tacky but the large beads shrunk considerably, so after that I continued to roll it for a third time and it smoothed out very nicely. It was still a little tacky the next day, but by the 3rd day was completely dry and Shiny! ;)Don’t know how long it will last but it looks as good as the red one.
I have loaded 2 pix to my attachment file and maxed it out, I can’t figure out how to delete them so I can upload more
