It is great you have a new canoe to try out…and I am sure I am speaking for many of us….that Spring has just got to get here so we can get out paddling! I live in Minnesota and it snowed the last 3 days and I am just about ready to throw myself off my deck and end it all if Spring doesn’t get here soon!

O.K….I won’t really throw myself off the deck…but seriously….I can’t wait to get the canoe out of the garage and onto a body of water!

Not so shiny any more…that pic was from the first day I bought it. Now it is full of beautiful scratches from many memory making trips!

Here is a close-up pic of my Souris River canoe with the tiger stripes…it is upside down on the T-bar of my truck. Can’t wait to get the canoe out of the garage and into the water. I like Winter and the things it has to offer…but I gotta admit…it is starting to wear on me.

Thanks bad apple… my handle started out as a joke….then a friend of mine made me a t-shirt that said Paddletramp…and now it’s my email address too!

And the tiger is pretty cool…when I went to buy it (I purchased it in Ely, Minnesota) I was going to get the same version of the canoe but without the Tiger Stripes because they cost extra (they are these cool black pin-stripes imbedded into the red kevlar), but the weekend I bought it was a Festival weekend, and they had a promotion that you could upgrade to the Tiger version for free. They have nothing to do with the performance of the canoe of course, but it sure looks cool when the sun shines through it!

I subscribed to the RSS in my email box, and have been enjoying getting the news posts! I live in Minnesota where we are currently in a Deep Freeze so the Canoeing News adds a bit of “Spring and Summer” to my day.

Right this minute it is 11 degrees below zero. Brrrrrrrrr…

I am so glad you posted the question about Lake Superior. I live two hours south of the lake, and have always wondered why I never read anything about canoes on Lake Superior. I know it makes common sense to not be in a canoe on a huge lake when there is bad weather or big waves, but since I never read anything about canoes, I thought if I tried it then something bad would automatically happen, like there was some Wise Unwritten Rule in the canoeing world about a canoe touching Lake Superior. A silly thought I know….

Canoeing early morning til Noon or so is something I definitely need to try this Spring! Thanks for the advice!

This is officially my first post on the forums.

I proudly paddle a 16′ Souris River Red Tiger Kevlar canoe. Small enough for me to solo paddle and car-top by myself, but big enough for my friend and I to take our Boundary Waters trips in. I bought it a year and a half ago…and I still think that buying a canoe is the best decision I have ever made.
