The cargo capacity of the Prospector 18’ model can only be described as massive. The Prospector lines produce a canoe that feels deceptively light and responsive, but there’s tons of space to pack in a load of supplies for any expedition with room left over to toss in the kitchen sink. The P18 is a big boat with straighter tracking than our shorter Prospectors. It’s perfect for the wilderness traveler intent on expedition style adventures or a large family wanting to travel in one canoe.
The Champlain has the efficiency and capacity to haul heavy loads long distances, but is also pleasant to paddle lightly loaded. It also has fullness for much of its length, giving it even greater volume than its dimensions suggest. It gets excellent stability from its size, and from its shallow-arched hull, a design that is less sensitive to waves and easier for paddlers to handle. Its slightly rockered keel-line also lets it turn quite easily for its size.
Round bottom, no tumblehome, good capacity, tracks well, very fast, great glide
The 18′ Jensen Stock is a great tripping canoe. A shallow arch hull makes it stable, and the slight tumblehome makes it easy to paddle. If you’re planning extended trips in the north country and don’t plan on paddling grade 2+ whitewater, the 18′ Stock could be the canoe you have been waiting for. The “Stock” offers general purpose paddling with capacity, handling and speed.
Capable of 1 to 2 week tripping for two Tripping, Recreation
This tandem canoe has versatility and efficiency. If you're looking for a stable canoe that has good cruising speed, this is the one for you. Designed by using some of the same basic concepts as Savage River's award-winning racing canoes, only wider, assuring good stability and speed while requiring less effort to get where you're going. The higher sides and flared bow make it very seaworthy on a choppy lake or swift flowing river. The Blackhawk is 18' long, and with a 34- 5/8" water line, it has the capacity to haul extra cargo for a day trip or an extended wilderness experience. This canoe also meets the racing specs for most recreational races with a 16% width to length requirement.
Leading pro paddlers use the V1-Pro for its speed and ability to maintain and keep a "pop" in shallow water. Pro boats are usually fully or partially decked with fabric covers to keep water out of the hull. And they often build V1s with special options such as bow bailers for the demanding conditions of pro racing.
For many mixed teams, adult / youth paddlers, and teams of different sizes, the difference between a good canoe and the right canoe is the difference between winning and losing. For these paddlers, it's essential that they can easily trim the canoe so it responds quickly and effortlessly to their paddle strokes. They can't afford to be fighting a canoe that handles poorly. That's why we build the V1-A with a "whale-tail." This allows the stern paddler to be farther back in the canoe, properly trimming and balancing the hull for maximum performance. For paddlers that have a variety of partners, it's possible to rig our mixer to change between a men's and a mixed set-up.
