In this course we will spend a day harvesting wild rice from a local lake. Identification of the native plant, tips on how to recognize when it is ripe to harvest, and harvest methods will all be covered. Students will gain enough knowledge to be able to harvest rice on their own for the remainder of the season (usually through mid- September). Each person will receive a portion of the wild rice harvested by the class. Canoe, paddle, life vest, and harvesting tools will be provided by the instructor. Wild rice harvesting licenses are available wherever fishing licenses are sold. One day course from 8 am – 4 pm. Choose from one of three dates.
