The essential Wabakimi map. Published by the Wabakimi Provincial Park in conjunction with the Ministry of Natural Resources this canoe routes planning map highlights over 2,200,000 acres of remote wilderness including the original park, 155,000 hectares regulated in 1983, and the additional 737,000 hectares added in 1992.
The total 892,061 hectares provides protection and representation for a wide range of natural and cultural heritage values, as well as opportunities for wilderness recreation. Park features include prime woodland caribou habitat, significant earth science land formations from the days of Lake Agassiz, important pictograph sites, and a variety of canoe routes. Wabakimi has limited access with the eight Via Rail train stops, fly-in service, and the connecting rivers outside of the park with road access. Travelers can be guaranteed the greatest seclusion possible in today’s world.
The copy explains the 15 access points accessible by car or train including the eight Via Rail train stops shown in great detail. An aerial view of each train stop shows you the portage route to the water and where to camp. The map also includes a section on posted road signs (regulations) found along the secondary and unmaintained roads accessing the Park.
