Canoeing.com Definition: These paddles have shorter, wider, square blades with a stiffer flex, making them more efficient for the quick power strokes like draws and prys required in whitewater. The blades tend to be at least 8" wide, typically no longer than 21" and are lightweight and durable. The characteristics of these paddles make them ideal for the fast and whitewater conditions of rivers and streams, shorter day trips on flat-water, or even entry-level paddling. Traditional blade styles include; beavertail, Sugar-island, and whitewater.
