(slightly incomplete map with a couple options)

Hi, I’m planning a September trip to WCPP starting on Labour Day weekend. I thought I might benefit from your knowledge.

Our group mostly consists of experienced paddlers. We will be doing the portages with a single carry to allow us to maximize distance and get to campsites early.

    Major lakes will be:

Day 1 Leano –> Upper Kilburn (via 1km Portage)
Day 2 Upper Kilburn to Talon
    Day 3 Talon to Aegean

Day 4 down day on Aegean

Day 5/6 Mexican hat lake (seems to be an excellent Walleye lake).

Day 7 to Mexican hat to Bunny

    Day 8 Bunny to Leano

    Questions:
Considering going to Aegean via Paull Lake instead of Talon.
is one route “nicer” than the other?

Have down days planned for Aegean (interesting and pretty with islands) and Mexican Hat (fishing). Are these lakes good choices for down days?

Have a more extreme route in mind, that would take us to Irregular lake via talon/eagle, and back via Aegean / Paull / BirdRiver / Bunny / Leano. Is there anything I should know about the area such as recent forest fires portages that have moved etc?

If the road to Leano proves too inhospitable, we wanted to come up with a contingency loop probably using the Johnson or Onnie Lake access points (assuming we can get that far). We will be in a small SUV so hopefully the level crossing won’t be an issue.

How will the fishing be the second week of September? Sometimes autumn can be a little off for fishing in my experience elsewhere.

Any insight or opinions would be welcomed.

    Trip was a big success.
Got my dad’s brand new Passat all the way in and out of Leano Lake. Kinda funny to talk to some of the locals who said it couldn’t be done. Careful driving is the most important part.

Northern Lights over Wrist Lake were amazing.
