Quetico Provincial Park is a wilderness specifically for paddling: over one million acres of the Canadian Shield, free of motorized vehicles, including stunning aquamarine lakes and epic portages, with names like the Delahey Death March and Memory Lane. Although some of your memories may be of muskeg, the interior of the Quetico has its advantages: you can travel for days without seeing another group and crash a campsite wherever you decide to spend the night. Just north of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, you can paddle into the park from Minnesota, but all visitors must get a permit from one of 6 ranger stations and pass through one of 21 entry points. For information and accommodations, Fort Frances, Atikokan, and Thunder Bay are the nearest big towns in Ontario, while Ely and Grand Marais provide services in Minnesota.
