Grand Portage is a combination of the Grand Portage National Monument and the Grand Portage Indian Reservation. On the shores of Lake Superior, the monument is an historic reconstruction of a fur-trading post at the end of the Grand Portage—a trail nearly 9 miles long that detours around the impassable falls of the Pigeon River. The Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa runs the nearby lodge, casino, and adjacent campground. Gas and limited groceries are available within a mile of the monument, and two ferries leave the monument and marina daily for Isle Royale from May through early Fall.
